What should you do when you forgot password of a web site?

Posted by admin  Published in Roboform Tips & Tricks

Many friends asked me the question: “What can I do if I forgot my password of MySpace”
Someone forgot MySpace password, someone forgot yahoo password, and someone forgot some other web site’s password.

I’m very sorry for them because they didn’t use Ai Roboform password management tool.
If they use Roboform, they won’t lose their passwords!

But now if I already forgot the password. What should I do? Below are step by step solutions:

1. In the login page of the web site, find the “forgot password” or ” Retrieve password” link, when you found it, click the link and go into the page and fill the register information like email, birth day, secure questions and retrieve your password.
“Forgot password” Links:
MySpace: “Retrieve password”
Yahoo:  “Retrieve password”

2. If you forgot the information when you registered, then you can’t retrieve your password by the above way.
Then click the below link to contact the service provider.
MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=misc.contact  Select “Your account” - “Forgot Password” or “Forgot username”
Yahoo: Contact yahoo for help

3. If you can’t get your password by above two ways. Then I have to say sorry, you may register a new account of MySpace or yahoo.
MySpace sign up
Yahoo sign up

4. To avoid this kind of problems, you are recommended to use Roboform to manage your passwords. It is not a joking. This is a must-have browser add-in.

Roboform Password Protect All Your passwords - More safe master password

Posted by admin  Published in Roboform Tips & Tricks

Password-Protect All Your passwords -

More safe master password

When RoboForm is installed for the first time you will be asked to create a Master Password. The Master Password is important when protecting your Passcards, Identities or Safenotes. If others have access to your computer we recommend encrypting your data by setting up a Master Password to safeguard all of your important information.*We describe password protection as applied to Passcards for brevity. All commands and displays are the same for Identities and Safenotes.

Master Password Setup

If you did not set-up your Master Password during the installation, you can set one up any time.    In the RoboForm toolbar select
RoboForm -> Options -> Security.    Click Set Master Password and create your Master Password.

*It is important that you remember your Master Password in order to access your Passcards, Identities, and Safenotes in the future.

Enable “Password Protection for New Files” to safeguard all of your Passcards, Identities and Safenotes.

It is dangerous to use “remember me” of your IE or FireFox

Posted by admin  Published in Roboform Tips & Tricks

There are tools to recover most of your ‘remembered’ passwords. You can use them if you forgot your ‘remembered’ passwords, and so can anyone with access to your machine. Aren’t they dangerous?

“I’ve forgotten my password [of a web site, mail account, instant messaging tool, etc.]. However, I can log in because I have ‘remember my password’ configured, so the computer just logs me in automatically since it saved password. Is there a way I can see what that password is?”

Yes of course you can.

It’s an important lesson about just how dangerous it is to use ‘remember me’.

Why? Because if you can recover it, then anyone who has access to the machine can probably recover it too.

‘Remember my password’ doesn’t seem like such a good idea anymore, now does it?
When you choose ‘Remember my password’, or any equivalent

Your passwords are saved somewhere in your computer.

Firefox

If you use Firefox as your web browser, do this:

Click on the Tools menu

Click on the Options menu item

Click on the Passwords tab

Click on the View Saved Passwords button

In the resulting dialog, click on the Show Passwords button

For other programs, you need to download a few simple utilities. Specifically, NirSoft has available several Password Recovery Tools. Included are tools that will display the saved passwords for a host of different programs and situations.

I want to make sure you remember 3 important things:

1) ‘Remember my password’ is a convenience, and a security risk. Use it with caution.

2) If your machine is not physically secure it is not secure. If someone can walk up to it, insert a disk and reboot it, they can take total control. And that includes recovering your passwords with tools as we’ve seen here.

3) Use a password manager tool, the best one is Roboform, which can memorize and protect your passwords.
