When i used to use my PC, I was addicted to Roboform. It was so useful! I know firefox stores passwords, and that’s how I’ve been getting by on my macbook thus far (since the switch), but I miss roboform.
Is there anything just like this for the Mac?
Since I got my Mac. I’m searching for software like Roboform to manage my passwords and fill forms. Roboform was the one application I truly missed, but it is for Windows. Safari comes with an auto-fill function and a keychain to keep up with passwords, but it is limited in nature. Only about 30% of the websites I had in Roboform were able to be auto-filled by Safari. I posted several messages on Apple web forums asking for a Roboform replacement. I got a couple of suggestions, but basically there was nothing available. I googled “Roboform for Macs” almost daily in hopes of finding something. I even took the time to have a long e-mail exchange with the developers of Roboform and practically begged them to do a Mac version. (on ANY Mac browser) In the end, they were not interested in doing Roboform for Macs.
Late one night last week I decided to check out the MacZOT of the day and I almost had a stroke.
Introducing Mac OS X Password Manager 1Passwd
1Passwd is touted as a “Password Manager and Form Filler for Mac OS X” and it fills this bill very nicely. I downloaded the demo which allows up to 12 sites to be saved and took it for a spin. Not only does 1Passwd give me back my Roboform functionality it does it with a prettier face and less annoying operation. After registering the program, I was able to import all of Roboform passcards and all of the items Safari had saved in my keychain. 1Passwd uses its own keychain and has .MAC sync so that my iBook and iMac can always have the current passwords. This is totally awesome. With Roboform, I always had to copy passcards over manually. After importing 200+ passcards from Roboform, I tested several of the sites that Safari’s auto-fill could not handle and 1Passwd was up to the task. 1 Passwd is capable of filling forms with more information than the inadequate address book entry that Safari uses. I can setup identities just like in Roboform. Plus, 1Passwd is much easier on your toolbar than Roboform as it only adds one key icon and automates tasks that Roboform made you deal with constantly. Finally, it not only generates new passwords when needed, it fills and saves them. (something Roboform doesn’t do) The developers of 1Passwd are my new heroes. They deserve to have a monument built in their honor!
If you are Windows switcher who is longing for a Roboform for Mac, then fly to the 1Passwd website and download it. If you have never used Roboform or 1Passwd before then you don’t know what you are missing. Surfing without them is like fishing without bait! I cannot recommend 1Passwd highly enough.

1Password is the best password storage application I have ever used. Every once in a while one comes across an almost magical piece of software that looks good, works good and is reasonably priced. And it’s not just the software that’s good, the support is awesome as well. I recently purchased the 2007 mac heist software bundle and 1Password was one of the bundled apps. Well, I already owned it but didn’t want the new license to go to waste so I sent a message to the 1Password folks via their support area and asked if I could transfer this new license to a friend of mine. Not only did they cheerfully comply with my request, this all took place within a few hours on a Saturday! I didn’t expect to hear from them until Monday. I’ve had an all-around awesome experience with their software an their support. They get 5 stars from me but I’d give them 6 if that many were available.
This is a terrific tool. Thank you for your frequent updates as well. One thing though is that it’s nice to have this as a lightweight utility and too often apps tend to become larger and larger, losing their speed as a tradeoff. It would be nice if this superior tool could avoid that software pitfall.
To me, it’s the best all-in-one password/license manager for the Mac. Simply one app to rule them all.
Also, I must comment on the recent iPhone/iPod touch bookmarklet feature. This was way beyond my expectations! This solves the problem with long and complicated passwords on the go, hosted in a secure and easy to use fashion.
unfortunately there’s no sync to Pocket PC…
Nice Site!

As most of you do, i have the same scheme, pc with roboform and mac with 1password, but i am really disappointed with 1 password. It is better than nothing but it’s not enough powerful to be compared to roboform. I hope roboform will launch a mac version in future. Actually i really dont understand whilst having the biggest piece on the pie why don’t they do that, i see everywhere when googling that people asking for that. Strange…
Haven’t tried it, but noticed that 1Passwd is now $34.95.
I can’t open the video for 1Password in action. Firefox returns an address not found message. I haven’t had a problem opening any other videos. Is there a problem with the link?
Thanks,
clmoody
